I volunteered at La Tortuga Feliz in May/June this year and I have taken a while to get onto this.
I had an amazing time at La Tortuga Feliz, and I was really impressed by the simplicity and effectiveness of the organisation. The accommodation is basic and clean, and the meals are generous. I really enjoyed making friends with the other volunteers and learning about the different breeds of turtles in the area and the importance of conservation. My most memorable experience was meeting a beautiful Leatherback Turtle while we where on night patrol and collecting her eggs; laying in the sand with my face a few centimetres from a two metre long turtle is an experience I won’t forget! I was also really exciting when a nest of turtles hatched and we could release them back into the ocean.
I would recommend La Tortuga Feliz to anyone that wants to make a positive impact with a successful conservation organisation.
